Rebecca Goh
Clinical Psychologist
I’ve always been curious about the ways we relate to ourselves and one another, and how it plays a part in almost everything we do. This led me to pursue Psychology in university in Melbourne. When I returned to KL, excited to land my first job with a leading advertising agency, I decided to put aside plans for further studies and got to work chasing ideas of “success”.
Fast-forward 10+ years to 2020, year of the pandemic. I was working in finance when the global crisis sparked existential questions for many of us. Headlines like “one in three Malaysians experience mental health issues” revived my long-standing desire to better understand the human condition, which brought me back to further training in mental health and clinical psychology.
My Approach
I’ve had the privilege of working with individuals navigating difficulties including stress, relationship issues, depression, anxiety, grief, and trauma. I also conduct psychological assessments for neurodevelopmental or neurodiverse conditions such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). My experience in both an NGO-managed community clinic, as well as private practice settings, allows me to provide inclusive and culturally sensitive psychological care.
My primary therapeutic approach draws from Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), which focuses on challenging unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours. I also integrate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), bringing in principles of mindfulness, psychological flexibility, and values-based strategies.
The path I’ve taken, including my detour into the corporate world, gave me personal and professional experiences that continue to help me understand and connect more deeply with my clients. We may not choose the cards we’re dealt, but we can choose our response to them.
Let’s figure it out together, one step at a time.
