ADHD Assessment & Therapy

When your brain works differently.

You've probably spent a lot of your life being told to try harder and focus more, or that you “have potential”. Or maybe you've built a life that mostly works, but underneath it there's a constant, exhausting effort to keep up with things that seem effortless for everyone else.

For many adults, ADHD goes unrecognised for years. You might have been labelled lazy, sensitive, or disorganised. You might have found ways to compensate that worked- until they didn't. Getting here has taken a lot out of you.

How ADHD shows up in adults

ADHD in adults rarely looks like a child bouncing off the walls. It tends to be quieter, more internal, and easier to miss.

You might notice:

  • Difficulty sustaining focus on things that don't interest you, even when the stakes are high

  • Hyperfocus on the things that do- losing hours without meaning to, then struggling to switch off

  • Chronic procrastination, not from laziness, but from genuine difficulty starting or transitioning between tasks

  • Emotional dysregulation- reactions that feel disproportionate, frustration that spikes fast, or feelings that are hard to shake

  • A constant sense of underperforming, even when others see you as capable or high-achieving

  • Restlessness, racing thoughts, or difficulty winding down, even when you're tired

Note:

ADHD in women and girls is especially likely to go undiagnosed. The presentation is often more internalised- anxiety, self-doubt, and burnout rather than visible hyperactivity, and the masking required to get through daily life can be significant.

therapy for Adult ADHD

How therapy can help

An ADHD diagnosis- whether recent, long-standing, or still in progress, can be a lot to sit with.

In sessions, we work to:

  • Understand your specific ADHD profile- not a generic checklist, but how it actually shows up in your relationships, work, and sense of self

  • Address co-occurring difficulties like anxiety, depression, or burnout, which frequently accompany ADHD

  • Develop practical strategies for executive function, time, and emotional regulation that work for you.

  • Rebuild self-trust, especially if you've spent years interpreting ADHD symptoms as personal failings

We draw on evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), adapted for the way ADHD affects thinking, emotion, and behaviour.

What does an ADHD assessment involve

Our assessment is a thorough, multi-stage process- not just a checklist:

  • Intake Session- to understand your history and whether a formal assessment is the right next step.

  • Assessment- includes a structured clinical interview, a corroborative interview with someone who knows you well, and standardised questionnaires and tests.

  • Report & Feedback- we finish with a comprehensive written report, diagnostic impressions, and a feedback session to discuss findings and next steps.

You don’t have to have a diagnosis to reach out

Some people come to us already diagnosed, looking for therapy to help them navigate life with ADHD. Others arrive with years of struggling in ways that have never quite been explained, and a growing suspicion that ADHD might be part of the picture.

We offer both ADHD assessments and therapy, so you don't have to figure out which one you need first. If you're unsure where to start, we can help you work that out.

Either way, reach out with no commitment, just a conversation to see if we might be a good fit.
